Death Sentence for Thai Woman Accused of Murdering 14 with Cyanide
A Thai woman has been sentenced to death for allegedly killing multiple friends with cyanide poisoning in a shocking case that has gripped the nation.
On a trip to Ratchaburi province in April 2023, Sararat was arrested following the mysterious death of her friend, Siriporn Khanwong, 32, after a meal. An autopsy revealed cyanide in Siriporn’s system, prompting police to investigate for other similar cases dating back to 2015. Authorities labeled Sararat “Am Cyanide,” suggesting a pattern of targeting friends burdened with debts, whom she subsequently robbed of their valuables. During her trial, Siriporn’s grieving mother expressed satisfaction with the verdict, emphasizing the long-awaited justice. Sararat, who maintained her innocence, faces more charges while her former husband and attorney received sentences for obstruction. Additionally, Sararat was ordered to compensate Siriporn's family.
Cyanide, known for its potent lethality, can lead to rapid death upon ingestion, and its availability in Thailand is strictly controlled.
