Hundreds Injured as Kyiv Faces Devastating Drone and Missile Assault
A significant attack on Ukraine's capital leaves four dead and dozens injured, prompting heightened tensions between Kyiv and Moscow.
In a violent escalation of conflict, Russian forces carried out extensive drone and missile strikes on Kyiv and various regions across Ukraine early Friday morning. The relentless barrage has left at least four individuals dead and close to 20 others injured, according to Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko of Kyiv. Tragically, three of the deceased were emergency rescue workers, who lost their lives while attempting to help civilians under fire, as stated by Ukraine's state emergency service (DSNS). The attack also resulted in serious injuries to nine other rescue personnel, with medical teams working relentlessly to save their lives.
In addition to the capital, other Ukrainian targets, including Lutsk and the Ternopil region, faced significant assaults. Ternopil's military chief, Vyacheslav Negoda, characterized the strikes as the "most massive air attack" on their region to date, with Mayor Igor Polishchuk reporting five injuries and damage to numerous homes, schools, and a government facility. Lutsk suffered injuries to five individuals from the deployment of 15 drones and six missiles, as confirmed by Mayor Ihor Polishchuk.
The Russian defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 174 Ukrainian drones overnight, asserting that Neptune anti-ship missiles were also downed over the Black Sea. This latest offensive follows Ukraine's substantial drone strike against Russian military bases, involving 117 drones aiming at over 40 Russian warplanes, an operation described by President Volodymyr Zelensky as significantly impactful.
As the situation continues to evolve, fears of further escalation remain high, with Putin previously indicating the potential for retaliatory military measures against Ukraine, increasing tensions between the two nations to unprecedented levels.
