Sudanese Army Gains Control of Khartoum Airport Amidongoing Civil War

Sudanese civilians rejoice as the military secures a crucial asset in the capital amid ongoing conflict.

In a significant development, the Sudanese military has reclaimed the airport in Khartoum from the paramilitary RSF, marking an important milestone in a protracted civil war that has left numerous casualties and widespread displacement.

The Sudanese army has announced that they have successfully retaken control of the airport in Khartoum from rival paramilitary forces, signaling a decisive move in the ongoing civil conflict that has plagued the nation for the past two years. General Mohamed Abdel Rahman al-Bilawi confirmed to BBC reporters that the military has fully secured the airport and is optimistic about clearing any remaining RSF fighters by the end of the day.

The recent military successes, which also include the recapture of the presidential palace earlier in the week, have prompted jubilant celebrations among civilians in the capital. The RSF, which has retained control of much of Khartoum since the onset of the civil war in April 2023, now faces significant pressure from the advancing armed forces.

Despite the army's progress in urban regions, the civil war continues unabated. Tragically, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands and has displaced millions from their homes across the country. Additional reports confirm that the RSF remains entrenched in the Darfur region, where devastating airstrikes earlier this week reportedly killed dozens of civilians in a market area.

While the situation appears to be shifting in favor of the army in the capital, experts warn that the war is far from over, with significant challenges remaining in the west. The world watches closely as Sudan navigates this tumultuous period, hoping for a resolution to the violence that has engulfed the nation.
