€5M Cocaine Bust in Kildare: Two Arrested in Major Drug Operation
Seizure marks significant blow against organized crime in Ireland
Two men have been apprehended following a remarkable seizure of cocaine valued at €5 million in County Kildare. The operation, conducted by members of An Garda Síochána (Irish police), unfolded on Wednesday when law enforcement officials executed a stop and search of a vehicle and a residence located in the Allenwood area.
With an astonishing haul of approximately 72 kilograms of cocaine uncovered during the operation, authorities have tied the suspects, aged in their 50s and 60s, to activities linked to an organized crime syndicate aimed at drug distribution. Following the arrests, the men have been charged and are scheduled to appear in Naas District Court on Thursday.
Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis, overseeing the Organized and Serious Crime division, praised the operation as a significant achievement in the fight against drug-related crimes. She stated, "This is another substantial seizure of cocaine directed at the Irish market," and underscored the commitment of An Garda Síochána and collaborating law enforcement bodies to target those involved in organized crime, which often leads to community harm, intimidation, and violence across Ireland.
