Former US President Joe Biden recently underwent skin cancer surgery, his spokeswoman said.

Biden had Mohs surgery, which is a procedure used to cut away skin until no evidence of cancer remains, but further details were not immediately provided.

The 82-year-old was seen with a wound on the right side of his head in the days leading up to the procedure.

In 2023, Biden had a cancerous skin lesion removed from his chest during a routine health screening.

Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.

On social media, Biden reflected, Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.\

Biden has a history of non-melanoma skin cancers removed before his presidency and has since retreated from public life with limited appearances after leaving the White House in January.

The Bidens have been vocal advocates in the fight against cancer, especially following the death of their son Beau from brain cancer in 2015.
