Kyiv has emerged from a night steeped in chaos and destruction, with Ukrainian officials reporting a staggering attack comprising 550 Russian drones and 11 missiles, highlighting the acute escalation in hostilities. The assault, described as one of the worst in recent history, brought thick smoke and horror to the city, underscored by the relentless sounds of air defence systems and explosions.

The bombardment came shortly after a significant phone call between former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Trump expressed his disappointment in Putin's unwillingness to conclude the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The assault on Kyiv involved a record-breaking penetration of Ukrainian air defenses, with 72 drones reportedly getting through.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the attack as "one of the worst nights" the city has seen, urgently calling for increased sanctions on Russia as he accused Putin of deliberately timing these strikes to undermine international advocates for peace.
