Teen Captures Horrifying Air India Crash on Video
Seventeen-Year-Old Aryan Asari's Life Changes Forever After Filming Tragic Incident
Every time Aryan Asari heard the roar of an airplane, it sparked a thrill within him. At just 17 years old, the high school student was captivated by the sound and spectacle of aircraft soaring overhead. For Aryan, planes were a source of joy, enticing him to rush outside with his phone to capture their flight paths. But a tragic incident on Thursday transformed that joy into horror.
While on the terrace of his father Maganbhai Asari's home in Ahmedabad, Aryan's plane-spotting hobby took a turn for the worse when he witnessed an Air India Dreamliner 787-8 crash just moments after takeoff. His shocking video of the incident—which saw the plane plummet before exploding into flames—has become a key piece of evidence for investigators scouring for answers.
"The plane was shaking. I knew something was wrong," Aryan recounted during an interview with BBC Gujarati. The horrific event claimed the lives of 241 individuals on the flight and nearly 30 on the ground, marking one of India’s worst aviation disasters.
Aryan's home in a newly relocated area near the airport seemingly provided the perfect vantage point for his aviation interests. Until this incident, he had never ventured outside his ancestral village, which made the experience all the more significant for him. He had only recently accompanied his sister on a trip to Ahmedabad for her police entrance exam, excitedly planning to document their new experiences.
After filming the crash, Aryan's heart raced as smoke filled the air. "I sent the video to my dad, and I was terrified," he said, recalling how fearful he felt after witnessing the unimaginable. He immediately reached out to his father, frantically asking what would happen next.
Despite his father's pleas to keep the video private, Aryan shared it with his friends, leading to its rapid dissemination online. Media personnel flooded their home for interviews, prompting the family to feel overwhelmed as reporters heaped pressure on them.
In the aftermath of the crash, police questioned Aryan about his footage, insisting on recording his testimony. Although he wasn't detained, the experience further exacerbated his mental distress. Fearing for their son's well-being, Aryan’s parents decided to send him back to the safety of their village.
Now, back home, Aryan has returned to school but struggles to concentrate, deeply unsettled by the day he can never forget. His father hopes that with time, Aryan will heal from this traumatic event, but he remains skeptical about whether his son will ever again take pleasure in his beloved planes.
With the investigation ongoing, Aryan’s footage continues to be scrutinized as the world reflects on this heartbreaking chapter in aviation history.
