Trump to Discuss Ukraine Conflict with Putin in Upcoming Call

In his latest remarks, Trump stated he will call Putin on Monday to negotiate an end to the hostilities in Ukraine, referring to the situation as a "bloodbath." This call comes on the heels of unsuccessful peace talks in Istanbul. Following his discussion with Putin, he plans to engage with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO leaders.

Donald Trump indicated on social media that his communication with Putin would be aimed at halting what he described as an unnecessary and violent conflict in Ukraine. He expressed hopes for progress, stating, "Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will take place." Trump's intention to mediate the war follows a recent bout of direct discussions between Russian and Ukrainian representatives, which ended without significant advances, though they did agree to a prisoner exchange.

As the international community, including NATO leaders, calls for a 30-day ceasefire, Ukraine has reiterated demands for an unconditional cessation of hostilities. In response to recent escalations, including a deadly drone strike by Russian forces in the Sumy region that resulted in civilian casualties, President Zelensky is advocating for enhanced sanctions against Russia.
