**Second Arrest in Arson Incidents Linked to U.K. Prime Minister**
A Romanian national is charged with conspiracy to commit arson connected to fires near the homes of Keir Starmer.
The Metropolitan Police have announced a second arrest related to a series of arson incidents involving properties and a vehicle connected to U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Stanislav Carpiuc, a 26-year-old Romanian national, faces charges of conspiracy to commit arson with the intent to endanger life, following a series of fires in North London earlier this month.
The first fire occurred on May 12, outside a residence previously owned by Starmer in Kentish Town, where he and his family resided until last year. Shortly before, on May 11, an additional blaze was reported at a property situated in the Islington area. The third incident involved the deliberate burning of a vehicle in Kentish Town, on May 8. Notably, the car, which once belonged to Starmer, had been sold to a neighbor, hence the connection.
Authorities have indicated that no injuries were reported, though significant damage was inflicted upon the Kentish Town house, which is currently rented out. Due to the sensitive nature of these incidents involving a high-profile political figure, counterterrorism police have taken charge of the investigation.
Carpiuc's co-defendant, Roman Lavrynovych, a 21-year-old Ukrainian, appeared in court last week and is also under scrutiny for his involvement in the alleged conspiracies. During a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court, prosecuting lawyer Sarah Przybylska remarked that the precise motivations behind the incidents remain unclear and that both properties and the vehicle were distinctly linked to Prime Minister Starmer.
Carpiuc was apprehended at London Luton Airport, with a court appearance anticipated soon as the investigation continues to unfold. As these events raise alarm, further developments are expected, prompting public interest in the safety and implications surrounding political figures in the UK.
