German Doctor Charged with Killing 15 Patients; 75 More Under Investigation

In a grave case of medical malpractice, a 40-year-old Berlin doctor is charged with the serial murder of 15 patients, leading to investigations into 75 more deaths. Authorities suspect he used lethal drugs and even attempted arson to cover his tracks.

 

In a shocking turn of events, a 40-year-old palliative care doctor in Berlin has been charged with the murder of 15 patients from 2021 to 2024. The public prosecutor's office revealed that a further 75 patient deaths are under investigation for possible foul play. If convicted of these grave charges, the doctor could become the most notorious serial killer in Europe since a nurse was convicted of killing at least 85 patients two decades ago.

The doctor, whose name remains undisclosed due to German privacy laws, allegedly sedated his patients using a potent narcotic followed by a muscle relaxant, effectively stopping their breathing. Prosecutors report that he has not confessed to the crimes, which were discovered after the authorities linked initial suspicions regarding four patient deaths that led to his arrest in August.

In some distressing accounts, the accused is alleged to have set fire to the apartments of his victims in a desperate attempt to erase evidence of his heinous acts. In at least one instance, he reportedly called an ambulance to mislead authorities about the circumstances surrounding a patient's death.

As the investigation unfolds, the public prosecutor is advocating for a special security custody plan to ensure the safety of the public, should the doctor be found guilty. Under current laws, the maximum sentence for murder is a life sentence with the chance of parole after 15 years. The accused is currently held at Moabit Prison in Berlin while the investigation attracts nationwide attention and disgust.
