Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak has met with a young fan after a video appearing to show a man snatching his hat from a boy in the crowd at the US Open went viral.

Majchrzak shared two clips on his official Instagram account showcasing his interaction with the boys, where he shook their hands and presented them with gifts, including a cap similar to the one handed to the boy before it was swiftly taken away in the clip.

Today after warm up, I had a nice meeting, the tennis pro wrote, adding: Do you recognise [the cap]?

The viral video, reported to be from Majchrzak's match on Thursday, depicted the player engaging with fans and offering a child his cap.

A man near the child appeared to take the cap before the child could grab it himself, prompting the boy to plead for it back. The clip drew sharp criticism on social media for the man, identified as Piotr Szczerek, a Polish CEO.

BBC News reached out to Mr. Szczerek through his company for comments regarding the incident.

After the encounter, Majchrzak posted an image of himself smiling next to the boy who was wearing the cap, captioning, Hello World, together with Brock we wish you a great day!

Majchrzak, currently ranked 76th in the world in men's singles, won his match at Flushing Meadows against Karen Khachanov, ranked ninth, but later retired from another match due to a torn intercostal muscle.
