Lee Jae-yong, the chairman of Samsung Electronics, has officially been cleared of all legal charges following a ruling by the Supreme Court of South Korea, marking the end of years fraught with legal battles and uncertainties. The court's decision, delivered on Thursday, vindicates Lee from accusations related to accounting fraud and stock manipulation, alleviating concerns about his leadership as Samsung confronts substantial challenges, including the ramifications of President Trump’s tariffs and intense competition in the semiconductor industry.

Samsung Electronics represents a significant portion of South Korea's economy, contributing nearly 16% of total exports, and is a titan among the country's family-led conglomerates, known as chaebols. However, over the years, the company has faced scrutiny and allegations of operating above the law. Lee, who is part of the company’s founding family, has been embroiled in numerous legal issues over the past decade, including a previous incarceration for bribing a former president, though he was later pardoned.
