**Zelensky Accuses Russia of Sabotaging Peace Talks Amid Ongoing Conflict**

Ukraine's President claims Russia is actively working to derail meetings aimed at resolving the war situation.

Zelensky has remained firm in pursuing peace, emphasizing the need for security guarantees while expressing concern over Russia's lack of concessions.

In a recent statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of taking deliberate actions to hinder potential peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict. This comes as US President Donald Trump has expressed a desire to facilitate a meeting between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he described as unlikely due to the two leaders' contentious relationship. Zelensky stated, "Ukraine, unlike Russia, is not afraid of any meetings between leaders," as he expressed support for the proposed summit, but reiterated the necessity for firm security guarantees from Western allies to safeguard against any future Russian aggression.

During a visit to Kyiv, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte highlighted Trump's efforts to "break the deadlock" and indicated that the alliance is currently focused on constructing security guarantees in coordination with the United States and Europe to prevent further attacks from Russia. Zelensky emphasized the importance of these security agreements, citing the need for assurances akin to NATO's Article 5, which stipulates collective defense against any member being attacked.

Both leaders underscored the significance of maintaining a robust Ukrainian military and defining the scope of international commitments to bolster Ukraine's defense. Zelensky acknowledged the skepticism within the Ukrainian populace regarding diplomatic initiatives but expressed that recent discussions in Washington had yielded a sense of unity among allies.

In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov downplayed the possibility of a summit, claiming that "there is no meeting planned" and accusing Ukraine of lacking the necessary flexibility in negotiations. Lavrov's assertions highlighted ongoing tensions, as he criticized Ukraine for rejecting proposals that could pave the way for a peace settlement.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has raised concerns about Russia's objectives, arguing that demands for territorial concessions from Ukraine could potentially trap the country into unfavorable conditions. Lavrov reiterated that Russia has not made significant concessions and blamed the Ukrainian government for impeding progress.

Despite diplomatic overtures, recent military escalations were noted, with Russia reportedly launching significant drone and missile attacks aimed at Ukraine. Concurrently, a Ukrainian drone strike damaged an oil facility in Russia’s Bryansk region, disrupting oil supplies critical to Hungary and Slovakia, prompting strong reactions from their respective governments.

As the international community watches closely, the situation remains volatile, with both sides continuing to assert their positions amidst ongoing conflict and diplomatic maneuvering.
