Michael Schumacher's Iconic 2001 Ferrari Fetches £13.43 Million at Auction
The legendary F2001, which led Schumacher to victory in the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix, breaks auction records.
The Ferrari that Michael Schumacher piloted to victory in the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix has been sold at auction for a staggering 15.98 million euros (£13.43 million). This legendary vehicle was not only used during the iconic Monaco race but also contributed to Schumacher’s triumphs at the Hungarian Grand Prix, securing his fourth world title within that same year.
The auction, conducted by RM Sotheby’s, took place just before qualifications for this year’s Monaco Grand Prix, and the F2001 became the most valuable car driven by the renowned German racer, who is now 56 years old. Additionally, this sale ranks as the fourth priciest Formula One car ever auctioned, following a record-breaking sale in February when a Mercedes 'streamliner' formerly raced by Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio was bought for an astounding £42.75 million.
Prior to this, the highest amount paid for a vehicle associated with Schumacher was £9.75 million for his F2003 in 2002. With excitement building around the upcoming race, Ferrari fans are hopeful for a repeat of Schumacher's success, as Charles Leclerc secured the second spot on the starting grid, following Lando Norris of McLaren.
