Trump Reverses Stance, Pledges Increased Military Support for Ukraine
In a striking shift, President Trump announces additional military aid to Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.
President Trump publicly expressed dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions, stating, “I’m not happy with President Putin at all.” This declaration followed an increase in Russian military assaults on Ukrainian cities, prompting him to reassess his stance on U.S. support for Ukraine.
“We’re going to send some more weapons,” Trump informed reporters at the White House. He highlighted the urgent need for Ukraine to bolster its defenses, stressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis: “They have to be able to defend themselves. They’re getting hit very hard. So many people are dying in that mess.”
This announcement represents a notable pivot for Trump, who has often voiced skepticism regarding U.S. military assistance to Ukraine. In a prior meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump had been critical, claiming Zelensky failed to express adequate gratitude for America’s backing.
In response to Trump’s new directives, the Pentagon reported that arms supplies to Ukraine would be reinstated. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell affirmed, “At President Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine.” He emphasized the U.S. goal of aiding Ukraine while striving for a return to peace and an end to the ongoing violence.
