Night of Terror: Russia's Aerial Attacks Claim Eight Lives Across Ukraine
Overnight drone and missile assaults leave a devastating toll on Ukrainian cities, with significant injuries reported amidst ongoing conflict.
In a tragic escalation of violence, Russia's overnight drone and missile strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least eight people throughout Ukraine, according to regional officials. The hardest hit areas include the western Khmelnytskyi region, where four fatalities were confirmed, alongside three in Kyiv, and one in the southern city of Mykolaiv.
This wave of attacks coincides with a significant assault on Kyiv, prompting Russian defense officials to report the interception of 95 Ukrainian drones across various regions, including the capital, during a four-hour period on Saturday night. Thankfully, no casualties were reported in those incidents despite the chaos that unfolded, which briefly grounded flights at Moscow’s airports.
In Kyiv, the strikes resulted in extensive property damage and left numerous individuals injured – at least 11 reported injuries alongside various residential buildings and dormitories severely affected. The local community, marking its traditional Kyiv Day holiday, faced horrors as residents sought refuge in the depths of the metro system.
The Mykolaiv region saw the grim recovery of an elderly man's body from debris following a drone attack on a five-storey building, and five others were confirmed injured. Meanwhile, the Kharkiv region registered three injury cases, amidst reports from the Russian defense ministry detailing their interception of a wave of Ukrainian drones aimed at eight Russian regions.
As Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine continues into its second year, Moscow maintains control over approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, which was annexed back in 2014. The continuous bombardment leaves peace and security in Ukraine ever more elusive, as violent hostilities further unravel in this ongoing conflict.
