NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists on Monday, according to court documents.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Florida, points to several articles and one book authored by two Times journalists, which emerged in the lead-up to the 2024 election. Trump asserts that these publications are indicative of a 'decades-long pattern' of intentional and malicious defamation against him.

According to the lawsuit, 'Defendants published such statements negligently, with knowledge of the falsity of the statements, and/or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity.'

The New York Times did not immediately provide a response to a request for comment early Tuesday morning.

In a post on Truth Social to announce the lawsuit, Trump alleged that The New York Times has consistently lied about him and accused the publication of serving as a 'virtual mouthpiece' for the Radical Left Democrat Party.

This action adds to Trump’s extensive history of legal confrontations with various media outlets, including a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch, resulting from a report concerning his connections to financier Jeffrey Epstein.
