An explosion at a gas station in eastern Rome sent shockwaves across the city on Friday morning, resulting in injuries to multiple first responders. Eight police officers and one firefighter were among those affected by the blast, which occurred around 8:15 AM.
The explosion originated from a fuel tank at the station that specialized in liquefied petroleum gas. Prior to the blast, emergency crews were already addressing an earlier incident involving a truck at the same location. Luca Cari, a representative from the Italian fire service, stated that the cause of the explosion remains unclear and was unable to provide additional details regarding the truck incident.
Following the explosion, firefighters rushed to control a fire that had ignited in a nearby parking lot, filled with vehicles seized by the authorities. The investigation into the explosion's causes is currently ongoing, and officials are urging the public to stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.
