According to his friend and former New York City council member Vincent Ignizio, Grimm is currently undergoing treatment, and a fundraising page has been established to cover the significant medical costs associated with his recovery process.

Grimm, who also served as a Marine and an FBI agent, was once a prominent figure in politics before his resignation in 2015 due to a tax evasion conviction. Ignizio has praised the medical treatment Grimm has received at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where he hopes to regain the ability to walk, although it is estimated that the necessary treatment will cost millions. In a show of support, New York City Mayor Eric Adams extended his thoughts and prayers to Grimm, emphasizing the importance of honoring veterans, especially during Veteran's Day.
