Trump Nominates Former Congressman Sean Duffy as Transportation Secretary
Former Wisconsin Congressman and Fox Host Sean Duffy tapped by Trump for DOT role.
President-elect Donald Trump announced his decision to nominate Sean Duffy, a former congressman from Wisconsin and current Fox Business host, to serve as the Secretary of Transportation. This marks Trump’s continued trend of selecting prominent figures from the Fox News network for critical cabinet positions, as Duffy becomes the second commentator chosen for the incoming administration.
In his announcement on Truth Social, Trump praised Duffy for his public service, stating, “Sean has been a tremendous and well-liked public servant, admired across the aisle.” Duffy is expected to oversee various transportation sectors, including aviation, automotive, and rail, with an annual budget of approximately $110 billion (£86 billion).
Trump highlighted Duffy's congressional experience, assuring that he would focus on advancing the nation’s infrastructure while emphasizing the administration's commitment to achieving a "Golden Age of Travel" centered around safety, efficiency, and innovation. He also noted Duffy’s family-oriented nature, given his marriage to Fox News personality Rachel Campos-Duffy and their nine children.
Before stepping into his role in Congress, Duffy was known for his career as a prosecutor and reality television star, having appeared on MTV’s The Real World: Boston and Road Rules: All Stars. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 until 2019 and will take over the role from Pete Buttigieg, who was nominated by President Biden in 2021.
As Duffy prepares to take the helm, he faces various challenges, including ongoing safety concerns at Boeing and labor actions within the transportation sector. Trump’s emerging administration continues to focus on appointing personal allies to key roles, privileging loyalty over extensive policy experience.
