Rescuers say 20 people have been injured in southern Israel after the Israeli military said a drone was launched from Yemen.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the drone struck the resort town of Eilat on the Red Sea coast, with attempts made to intercept it.
The Magen David Adom emergency medical service reported that 20 individuals were transported to Yoseftal Hospital, with two suffering serious limb injuries.
Israeli media has described the attack as a Houthi strike; however, the Yemeni group has not officially claimed responsibility yet.
Israeli TV stations broadcasted live footage purportedly depicting the drone strike area, with smoke billowing from the scene.
Verified social media footage shows a drone flying down out of sight, followed by birds scattering in the sky.
IDF troops, alongside the Israel Police, were dispatched to the area of Eilat after receiving a report of a UAV attack, stated the IDF.
The military added that troops and police were helping to evacuate the area and a helicopter was deployed to assist the injured.
The army has advised residents to remain in protected areas for 10 minutes upon receiving alerts.
Prior to this, air raid sirens were reported ringing throughout the town.
This attack, if confirmed as Houthi-related, represents one of the most severe incidents regarding casualties from the group.
In a previous attack in July 2024, a drone strike on Tel Aviv resulted in one fatality and ten injuries when it hit an apartment building near the US embassy office.
Eilat, a popular tourist destination, has recently faced similar drone attacks, with a previous incident affecting a hotel area last week, though no injuries were recorded.
Earlier this month, a Houthi drone struck Ramon Airport, just north of Eilat, wounding one person.
The Houthi group has been deploying missiles and drones towards Israel, claiming these actions represent solidarity with the Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In retaliation, Israel has conducted bombings in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, including strikes on the Red Sea port of Hudaydah, following reports of significant casualties in recent airstrikes by the Israeli defense forces.
