In a bid to manage tourist flow and protect its historic environment, Venice is set to double the number of days it charges entrance fees, starting in 2025. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro revealed that this initiative aims to discourage overcrowding and preserve the integrity of the city. The entrance fee, which ranges from €5 to €10 depending on booking timing, will be applicable on weekends and public holidays for 54 days between April and July 2025. Following a successful trial last year, where €2.4 million was raised, city officials are committed to continuing this strategy. Despite criticisms from some opposition councillors about its effectiveness, the city believes proactive measures against overtourism are essential.
