Afghan suspect in Scottish murder case reaches Athens court

The man suspected of killing a 32‑year‑old Scottish aid worker in Athens has been brought to court in the Greek capital, officials said Monday.

Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, was arrested after police questioned his links to the disappearance of Elisabeth Jane Ross. Ross’s body was discovered on 18 July in a suitcase at an abandoned building.

Ahmadzai was transported to the Public Prosecutor's Office in the Athens Court of First Instance around 09:40 local time, a lawyer who spoke on condition of anonymity said. He faces formal charges of homicide with intent, robbery and weapons offences, the court spokesman added.

The suspect was seen driving a grey Hyundai i30 with its windows blacked out, the same vehicle that carried the victim’s body, police investigators noted. Authorities are urging any witnesses in the area to come forward.
