Armed Man Arrested Near Trump Golf Course Ahead of President's Visit
Authorities in California have arrested a man who was seen near a golf course owned by former President Donald Trump in the Los Angeles area, ahead of the president’s visit for a fundraising dinner there.
The 38‑year‑old, named Jeanine John Taele, was found with a pistol and illegal ammunition on the premises of the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, investigators say.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said he was “observed walking throughout the golf course grounds taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security‑planning activities.”
The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon, as Trump was scheduled to attend a Republican party fundraising dinner at the course on Tuesday.
Taele faces charges for carrying a concealed firearm and possessing an armour‑piercing or prohibited ammunition. Plainclothes federal agents reported a suspicious person during the middle of the day, about 15 30 ET, prompting local police intervention.
The suspect was also being sought in connection to a robbery by the El Segundo Police Department, roughly 15 mi north of the golf course. Police discovered he was carrying a 16‑round magazine with hollow‑point rounds, and that his vehicle contained a loaded pistol and further hollow‑point ammunition.
California’s strict gun laws forbid magazines that hold more than ten bullets, rendering the suspect’s firearms especially concerning. An FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and the County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau raided his Downey home on Monday, citing potential security implications.
Inside the residence, agents seized an illegally modified AR‑platform rifle, a .45 pistol, body armour, high‑capacity magazines, numerous pistol and rifle rounds, and multiple notebooks that contained “concerning statements.”
Investigations are ongoing with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service, and officials are open to filing additional charges. The Sheriff’s Department stated no credible threat to community safety has been identified. However, the case highlights the importance of vigilance, strong inter‑agency partnerships, and proactive steps to intercept suspicious activity before escalation.
The president’s visit to California is rare. He is slated to attend the fundraising dinner but will also speak about California, including criticisms of Governor Gavin Newsom, who is seen as a possible 2028 presidential contender. While Trump has survived three assassination attempts in recent years, officials have not linked the suspect to any plot against the former president, and he faces no charges related to such allegations.
