Two men driving along a quiet road near the village of Oallen, about 230 km southwest of Sydney, stopped to rest and discovered a closed suitcase among the trees.
Police immediately treated the find as a possible murder scene and opened an investigation. They initially believed the suitcase contained a woman’s body.
Forensic analysis later revealed the contents were not human at all but a lifelike doll that closely resembled real remains. The doll had hair, clothing, a nose piercing and markings that mimicked bruises.
The authorities decided to close the case after confirming the lack of tissue. They thanked the men who reported the discovery for their decision to come forward.
The incident has drawn media attention, but the investigation now remains officially closed.
