Australian conservationist Bindi Irwin honored the 20th anniversary of her famous father’s death with a heartfelt tribute that highlighted the man best known as the Crocodile Hunter.
Steve Irwin passed away on 4 September 2006, aged 44, after a stingray fatally pierced his chest while underwater filming a documentary at the Great Barrier Reef.
Bindi, who was eight at the time, called him a superhero in an Instagram post and reminded fans that the world mourned her dad over the past two decades.
She wrote that his legacy is one of love for wildlife and each other, thanking him for being the family’s guardian angel.
Bindi shared that her mother Terri lost the love of her life and her brother Robert lost the greatest dad, noting grief never truly leaves us.
She also spoke about how her own daughter feels loved by her “grandpa crocodile” through the documentaries.
The Irwin family continues to run the Australia Zoo in Queensland, celebrating the impact of Steve’s legacy, which will ripple for generations.
