The CIA director John Ratcliffe has flown to Moscow for undisclosed talks, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS.
The flight began at Riga airport at 05:50 GMT and landed at Vnukovo International Airport around 07:04 GMT, data from FlightRadar24 shows.
Neither the White House nor the Kremlin has confirmed what the meetings will cover or who Ratcliffe will meet. In‑person talks between top US and Russian officials remain rare.
Ratcliffe’s visit may signal a renewed US interest in diplomatic engagement amid ongoing tensions over the Ukraine conflict, a strategy that has seen limited progress since the 2022 invasion.
The CIA has previously been involved in high‑profile prisoner swaps, including the 2024 release of Evan Gershkovich and other detainees, roles that highlighted its capacity for covert diplomacy.
Whether this Moscow trip will pave the way for new negotiations, or simply serve as a diplomatic gesture, remains to be seen.
