Clay Fuller, a Republican candidate endorsed by Donald Trump, is projected to have won Georgia's runoff election to replace former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who resigned earlier this year. Fuller emerged victorious against Democrat Shawn Harris, maintaining the Republican grip on the strongly conservative district.
This victory not only secures Fuller a seat in Congress until Greene's term ends next January but also strengthens the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Fuller expressed gratitude for Trump’s endorsement, remarking that it was pivotal to his campaign's success.
He was the difference-maker, Fuller stated in a Fox News interview. It was the honor of my lifetime to be able to get his endorsement. With the election holding significant implications just ahead of the midterm elections, Fuller will need to quickly transition into campaign mode again to ensure he retains his seat come November.
The special election followed a first round on March 10, where Harris had performed better than Fuller, suggesting the potential for a competitive race due to the split Republican vote. Now, both candidates are gearing up for a rematch, with Harris indicating on social media that he plans to run again.
Fuller, who has aligned closely with Trump on issues such as immigration, faced a race that was closely watched by political analysts as an indicator of Trump's continuing influence within the Republican Party.
