Trimbos Institute warns of lethal Trump‑shaped ecstasy pills

A Dutch drug‑addiction agency, the Trimbos Institute, has issued a “red alert” after finding ecstasy tablets carved in the shape of former US president Donald Trump that may contain highly toxic PMMA.

The pills were seized in August and tested to carry a dangerously high dose of para‑methoxymethamfetamine, a chemical similar to MDMA but with a delayed, often absent stimulant effect. The delayed onset increases the risk of overdose, causing nausea, tachycardia and convulsions hours after ingestion.

Trimbos released images of the yellow‑blue and red‑green variants, warning users that the pills “should not be used under any circumstance” and that no deaths have yet been reported, although the drug remains illegal in the Netherlands.

The warning follows a 2017 incident in Germany when police seized thousands of Trump‑shaped carrot‑coloured tablets that were being marketed online as “Trump makes partying great again.”
