Fatal shooting in West Bank's Tal leaves six dead
Tal, 24 July 2026 – A deadly shoot‑out in the northern West Bank village of Tal left four Palestinians and two Israelis dead, the most lethal incident in the region in months.
Palestinian witnesses describe a scene in which a group of about thirty settlers rushed into local homes, sparking a confrontation that escalated after Israeli troops entered the area. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) later blamed an armed Palestinian for initiating the violence and said soldiers “eliminated the terrorist” after a security guard’s gun was seized.
The Palestinian foreign ministry condemned the massacre, accusing the Israeli government of enabling settler terror. “The escalation of settler terrorism is a direct consequence of the protection and impunity granted by the Israeli occupation,” the statement read.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to act with “full force against the terrorists” and called an emergency meeting of security officials. Reinforcements have been dispatched to the area, reportedly near the settlement of Havat Gilad.
The incident comes amid a surge in settler attacks on Palestinians that has intensified since the Gaza war erupted on 7 October 2023. According to United Nations figures, 1,114 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the conflict began, with the majority casualties attributed to IDF actions.
