Five people have been injured, one critically, in a shooting at Virginia State University which involved multiple suspects, the university said.
Officers responded at about 1:28 a.m. on Saturday outside a residence hall courtyard.
All five victims were taken to nearby hospitals with four injuries deemed non-life‑threatening; one was reported as critically wounded.
It remains unclear whether any suspects have been arrested – the university said police were not yet sure.
A temporary campus lockdown was lifted but a significant police presence remains, according to VSU officials.
Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation, backed by local law enforcement and campus police.
Virginia State University is a historically Black college and university with some 5,000 students, located roughly 20 miles south of Richmond.
Classes for the new term were scheduled to begin on Monday.
