WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — William Stevenson, 77, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, aged 64, found unresponsive at their Delaware home in late December.

Stevenson, who was previously married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975, was arrested on Monday and is currently held in jail after failing to post a $500,000 bail.

According to the Attorney General's spokesperson, Stevenson and Jill Biden were indeed married during the early years of her life.

On December 28, police responded to reports of a domestic dispute at Stevenson's residence. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman unresponsive in the living room. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Linda Stevenson, remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and a Philadelphia Eagles supporter, ran a bookkeeping business, and her obituary did not mention any details about her husband.

The murder charge followed an investigation by the Delaware Department of Justice detectives that spanned several weeks. It's currently unclear whether Stevenson has legal representation.

In an interview with Newsmax in 2024, Stevenson had previously criticized Jill Biden, labeling their divorce as contentious and describing her negatively.

Jill Biden has been married to U.S. Senator Joe Biden since 1977, who served as president from January 2021 to January 2025.
