On Saturday, the balloon was flying over a scenic part of Santa Catarina when it ignited, with visuals showing it engulfed in flames before crashing into a forested area. State fire brigade officials immediately mobilized 27 firefighters, alongside an aircraft and several rescue vehicles, to manage the situation and begin an investigation into the cause of the fire. The pilot, who survived the incident, indicated that a reserve gas cylinder within the gondola ignited, prompting him to attempt to lower the balloon and instruct passengers to jump to safety. While some were able to escape before it ultimately fell back into the air, others tragically did not make it out in time.
