Directors Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang are optimistic about their film's trajectory as awards season approaches.

KPop Demon Hunters has seen an explosive rise, recently overtaking Squid Game as the most-watched title in Netflix history, racking up over 325 million views. In a recent interview, both directors revealed their hopes for an Oscar nomination, particularly in the category of Best Animated Feature.

“The title alone is obviously Oscar bait,” Appelhans remarked humorously, while Kang expressed excitement about the potential for sequels, saying, “There's definitely more we can do with these characters in this world.”

The film follows the thrilling adventures of the animated girl group Huntr/x, who balance their lives as pop stars with their heroic mission to save the world from evil antagonists, specifically a band of demonic rivals called the Saja Boys.

As they prepare for the Oscars, both directors are eager to see how their music, especially the hit anthem ‘Golden’, will be received, noting that Netflix has already positioned it for Academy consideration. With a strong critical reception and a remarkable Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, hopes are high for KPop Demon Hunters to make an impactful presence in the awards circuit.
