Pilot Arrested for 70,000 Ecstasy Pills at Jakarta Airport

CCTV footage released by Indonesian authorities captured a Malaysian pilot being stopped at Jakarta’s Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport after a suitcase containing roughly 70,000 ecstasy tablets was discovered.

The drugs weighed about 26 kg (four stone). The pilot reportedly received a payment equivalent to £9,000 for the smuggling, a figure roughly $240,000 when converted to US dollars. He has since been charged with drug smuggling, a crime of high priority for Indonesia’s anti‑smuggling units.

Officials say the pilot was under the influence when detained, prompting an immediate forensic check of the suitcase at the checkpoint. The footage shows security officers pulling the heavy bag from the silver case and transferring it to a secure container.

The incident highlights the continuing international battle against drug trafficking and underscores the importance of robust airport security protocols to prevent illicit substances from moving out of the country.
