Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Vladimir Putin from threatening Europe, according to Poland's President Karol Nawrocki.
In an interview with Radio 4's Today programme, he stated that the Russian leader was not to be trusted, but that Europe needed to do everything it could to support President Trump in his efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Already a well-known supporter of Donald Trump, President Nawrocki emphasized that with Vladimir Putin's Russia threatening Poland and central and eastern Europe, only the US president could 'solve this problem' and end the conflict in Ukraine.
Nawrocki referred to last September's mass incursion by Russian drones as an 'extraordinary situation', noting that it was unprecedented for a NATO member to experience such a large-scale drone attack. He suggested that Russia is testing Poland's defenses and NATO's unity.
The Polish president thanked Britain for deploying RAF Typhoon jets to assist in defending Polish borders and noted that Poland has been in a state of hybrid war with Russia since 2021, facing drones and disinformation campaigns.
In the interview, Nawrocki confronted the relationship between Donald Trump and Europe amid Trump's past controversial remarks, such as threats regarding Greenland. Despite this, he insisted that with the US still acting as the security guarantor in Europe, Trump's actions deserved support and respect.
He voiced concerns about Europe potentially 'detaching' itself from the United States, stating that this separation would not benefit the economic or military security of the EU.
Amid the political landscape, he also criticized European leaders for prioritizing ideological issues over security, remarking that Poland has increased its defense budget to nearly 5% of GDP.
Nawrocki recognized the importance of UK-Poland relations, appreciating the contribution of British soldiers stationed in Poland and expressing hope for Poland's inclusion in next year's G20 summit under Britain's presidency.
