Priyanka Chopra Jonas on Making a Film About Love and Caste Inequality

The Hollywood‑based star‑filmmaker discussed the inspiration behind her upcoming biographic drama, The Cycle of Love, which follows the true tale of an Indian artist who cycled over 6,000 miles to re‑unit with the Swedish woman he loves while confronting caste discrimination.

Chopra Jonas, who also serves as executive producer, said she was drawn to the story almost immediately when first hearing it. “It felt like a journey that’s both a romantic epic and a social commentary,” she told BBC.

The film, directed by Orlando von Einsiedel, charts the cyclist’s challenging voyage from India to Europe, revealing the harsh realities of the caste system he faced along the way.

The interview, conducted by BBC culture correspondent Noor Nanji, also previewed the director’s vision for how the narrative intertwines love and societal critique, as well as the reason behind choosing this subject for global audiences.
