Russian ballistic missiles struck a drone exhibition near Kyiv, claiming ten lives and injuring around a hundred people.
In the early hours of Saturday, the Russian armed forces launched three ballistic missiles at a public event showcasing drone technology. Ukrainian Defence Ministry spokesman Yuri Ihnat confirmed that only one of the three missiles was intercepted, while the other two caused massive destruction.
According to a statement by President Volodymyr Zelensky, the exhibition attracted defence industry leaders, including officials who were “directly planning and carrying out strikes on Russian territory.” The incident has prompted Ukrainian authorities to launch an inquiry into the decision to host the event and the security measures that were supposed to protect attendees.
Additional casualties were reported elsewhere in Ukraine. Five people were killed by Russian glide bombs in the eastern city of Sloviansk, while the northern city of Sumy lost two men. Ukrainian forces counter‑attacked the following day, striking a factory in the Russian city of Kirov and killing six people. That attack also wounded 26 residents and destroyed key infrastructure used to supply Russian military equipment.
Ukrainian strikes targeted the major Russian online retailer Wildberries, attacking warehouses in the St Petersburg area. These raids are part of Kyiv’s strategy to disrupt logistics hubs that can be used to purchase weapons and supplies for the Russian army.
Amidst the escalating violence, President Zelensky announced that the United States would host him next week, including a meeting with President Donald Trump, as international efforts seek to revive peace talks between the two combatants.
