At the scene of a school roof collapse in Pakistan
A roof collapsed over a primary school in the north‑western city of Peshawar, killing at least 33 pupils and a teacher, with more than a dozen students injured, hospital officials say.
Police Chief Mian Saeed has announced the arrest of the school’s owner and pledged an inquiry into possible breaches of building‑code regulations.
The tragedy has drawn attention to the challenges of maintaining safety in rapidly expanding urban schools across the region.
Sources say the building was constructed in the 1990s without proper oversight, leading to weaknesses that made the structure vulnerable during seasonal storms.
