South Park Renames Show to “South America” – A Satirical Blow to Trump

The long‑running comedy series South Park has declared that the next season will be branded as “South America”, a jape aimed at former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent foray into renaming public landmarks.

According to a statement posted by creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the name change is “inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google” and serves as a response to Trump’s Executive Order that renamed Lake Ontario as “Lake America” and last year’s instruction to rename the Gulf of Mexico as “Gulf of America.” The pair noted that the new title was announced after the show earned an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program on Sunday.

South Park has long mocked Trump, a relationship that has earned it sharp criticism from the White House and MAGA allies. The White House once dubbed the show “fourth‑rate” during its 27th season after a controversial episode. The latest renaming comes as Trump again toys with public imagery – he recently circulated an AI‑generated video overlaying “America” on a “Welcome to New Mexico” sign.

Whether the “South America” name will stay permanently or revert to the original remains unclear; the new season will premiere on 16 September.
