A seven-month-old girl was shot and killed while sitting in her pushchair in broad daylight in Brooklyn, NY, according to local police. Authorities believe the baby was an unintended victim of suspected gang-related violence.

Footage from the scene revealed two men riding a motorbike against traffic when the passenger pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, as per the statements from Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. The bike subsequently crashed, leading to the apprehension of the suspected shooter, while the driver remains at large.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his grief, stating, 'A life that had barely begun was taken in an instant. Today is a devastating reminder of how much more work there is to be done to combat gun violence across this city.'

At the time of the shooting, several adults and children were present on a street corner. The child’s parents fled to a nearby corner shop after the gunfire, only to discover soon after that their baby had been shot. Eyewitness reports indicated chaos, with kids ducking for cover.

Emergency services were called shortly after 1 PM local time. The child was transported to Woodhull Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Fortunately, no other individuals were reported injured during the incident.

Tisch commented, 'As a mother, I cannot imagine the pain that this family is feeling or the grief that they now carry with them. It is unspeakable.'

Following the shooting, police reviewed footage capturing the suspects crashing into a car as they attempted to flee, with one suspect suffering injuries severe enough to require hospitalization before being taken into police custody. Investigators are currently working to determine connections between the apprehended suspect and the shooting incident.
