Trump Threatens "Tremendous Economic Consequences" on Countries Helping Iran

President Donald Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that the United States will inflict "tremendous economic consequences" on any country that provides a lifeline to Iran, including financial institutions, business entities, airports and governments.

The warning follows the expiration of a 60‑day ceasefire with Iran and echoes the hard‑line approach of Operation Economic Fury, a sanctions campaign begun last April against foreign banks and firms working with Tehran.

Trump did not specify the exact punitive measures, but reiterated that oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries and front companies must cease immediately. The post implied a global economic “D‑Day” that would target any state willing to support Iran.

The Treasury Secretary had recently warned that the U.S. would impose an economic isolation on Iran “like the world has never seen before.” Washington has yet to provide further clarification on the scope or enforcement of the new sanctions.

The threat appears to be both a diplomatic signal and a warning to the international finance community, suggesting a potential widening of the U.S. sanctions program to encompass broader geopolitical allies of Iran.
