Turkish School Shooting Leaves 11 Injured; 15‑Year‑Old Detained

A 15‑year‑old male student was arrested after opening fire outside the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Manisa, Turkey, leaving 11 people wounded, including students.

Police claim the gunman fled the scene while holding a shotgun that was later seen in CCTV footage. The suspect, now held in custody, was escorted by the nation's justice minister, who said the school’s shooting was "deeply saddening" for the educational community.

Police officers with armored vehicles and a variety of state agencies were deployed to the site. The case also involved the suspect’s mother, father and grandfather, who are alleged to have owned the weapon, and were detained.

This incident represents the third school shooting in Turkey in 2026, following recent attacks in Kahramanmaraş and earlier this year that raised concerns about gun availability in schools.

The Ministry of Education sent three national investigators to Manisa, while authorities emphasized new security measures and tighter gun controls that will take effect for the 2026‑2027 academic year.
