In the early hours of the morning, Ukrainian forces launched a coordinated series of drone attacks that struck a major oil refinery in the Saratov region and the Engels airfield, a base used by Russia for long‑range bomber operations. The strikes were described by President Volodymyr Zelensky as a form of "our long‑range sanctions" aimed at the facilities that help finance Moscow’s war effort.

Russia reported that eight civilians were killed in the strikes and that its air defence shot down or intercepted 635 drones. In addition to the refinery and airfield, a drone hit an oil depot in Kaluga and knocked out a launch pad in Bryansk.

On Sunday, Russia accused Ukraine of striking a Wildberries logistics hub, describing the hit as “yet another terrorist act.” The company, which employs around 48,000 people, says the facility supplied drones and other equipment to the Russian military, and the strike may harm Russia’s economy by disrupting that supply chain.

Russian forces also deployed overnight attacks on two Ukrainian ports and two vessels in the Black Sea, while Ukrainian officials said one person was killed near Kharkiv after a Russian missile strike on a postal terminal. Both sides continue to target major cities, energy infrastructure and warehouses as the front line stays largely static.

The Ukrainian military claims that its assault on Engels has caused a blaze and damaged civilian infrastructure. Former governor Roman Busargin confirmed that the airfield suffered damage but reported only two casualties. In the Udmurtia and Belgorod regions, additional drone strikes killed three residents in each area.

The ongoing focus on strategic facilities underscores the broader war strategy: each side seeks to weaken the other’s logistical and economic capacity while maintaining control over the front. Despite international calls for ceasefire and diplomatic negotiations, neither side has seen a significant shift in the conflict dynamics.
