Yung Filly Faces Retrial on Rape Charges in Australia

British rapper Yung Filly, who runs a YouTube channel under the name Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will be brought in court again on 27 August after a jury found him not guilty on three countable charges of rape and left split judgments on several other sexual assault allegations.

The 31‑year‑old social media star performed at a Perth nightclub in 2024, after which a 20‑year‑old fan claimed he raped and assaulted her in a hotel room. He denied all ten charges taken to the court. Last month the jury cleared him from three rape counts, one assault, and one strangulation charge, but he was found guilty on two separate assault charges. The court will only decide on the guilty counts once the retrial takes place.

During the 2024 trial the judge heard that the victim had first engaged in consensual sex with Yung Filly in his hotel room. She later alleged that he became violent and ignored her requests to stop. The prosecution says she is willing to give evidence again, while his defence lawyer claims the evidence contains many inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies.

Yung Filly was born in Colombia and raised in the UK, and has built a star‑status career with the YouTube collective Beta Squad. He has also appeared on the celebrity version of the Bake Off on Channel 4 and hosted BBC Three shows. The retrial date has not yet been set, and he will not be sentenced for the guilty assault charges until after the court reaches a verdict.
