Zimbabwe Star Divine Lunga Survives Gun Attack in Johannesburg

Zimbabwe international Divine Lunga survived a shooting in the inner‑city suburb of Hillbrow on Sunday. The attacker, who is still unknown, fired at the car on which Lunga was travelling with his younger brother, reportedly mistaking the forward defender for an undercover police officer.

Lunga is the captain of the Zimbabwe national side and a key player for South African Premier League club Mamelodi Sundowns. Police are investigating the incident as an attempted murder, but no arrests have yet been made.

The attacker’s motive remains unclear. Lunga’s team, the Warriors, posted a picture of him in a prayer pose alongside the caption “In God we trust” to show solidarity after the attack.

The shooting serves as a stark reminder of the high crime rates that plague many South African cities, a situation that continues to endanger public safety.
