In brief

During a recent meeting in Germany, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of continued international support for Ukraine's ongoing conflict with Russia. As he addressed representatives from around 50 countries, Zelensky warned against relinquishing efforts at a time when new political dynamics are emerging, particularly with the incoming U.S. administration under President-elect Donald J. Trump.

In his speech, Zelensky highlighted that the upcoming inauguration of Trump on January 20 marks the beginning of a "new chapter" for Europe and globally. Acknowledging Trump's previous skepticism regarding U.S. assistance to Ukraine, he encouraged allies not to underestimate the importance of collaboration and shared goals in facing the challenges ahead. “It’s clear that a new chapter starts for Europe and the entire world just 11 days from now… We have come such a long way that it would be crazy to drop the ball now,” Zelensky stated. His appeal was delivered during the 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which has assembled representatives from over 53 nations since the war's inception nearly three years ago. The conference also featured U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin announcing a new $500 million military aid package aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defenses against ongoing aggression from Russia and North Korea. The continued flow of aid is crucial for Ukraine as it navigates a transforming geopolitical landscape, with Zelensky urging that the strengthened coalitions should be built upon rather than abandoned.
