In brief
Grosvenor Square, once known as 'Little America', is undergoing a significant transformation. The former U.S. Embassy was vacated by American diplomats in 2018 and is now being converted into the Qatari-owned Chancery Rosewood Hotel. With the hotel set to open in September, the square itself is receiving a 13-month renovation aimed at enhancing its green spaces and historical essence. This revitalization reflects a shift from a prominent American stronghold to a cultural fusion point, celebrating biodiversity while highlighting its rich history.
As dignitaries in the past may have once frequented the square's past events and protests, it has since fallen into neglect, prompting the need for revitalization. The new hotel, adorned with a striking aluminum eagle, signals a departure from its former identity, as Grosvenor Property aims to restore the area in line with its Georgian roots. The British firm insists that despite the changes, the legacy of 'Little America' will not be forgotten.
