At least six individuals lost their lives in a suicide bombing targeting the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, a site often referred to as the "University of Jihad." The attack took place shortly after congregants had finished Friday prayers, and it resulted in injuring more than ten others.

Among the deceased is Maulana Hamid ul-Haq, the influential head of the seminary and a notable cleric in the region. His son, Khuzaima Sami, reported that hundreds were gathered in the mosque when the explosion occurred, leading to fears of significant casualties. The local police have initiated an investigation, noting that the blast happened as worshippers were about to greet ul-Haq.

The seminary has historically been linked with the Taliban, boasting alumni such as Jalaluddin Haqqani and his son, Sirajuddin, who played pivotal roles in the Taliban's insurgency efforts. Maulana Hamid ul-Haq, 57, took over the role of vice-chancellor after the assassination of his father, Maulana Sami ul-Haq, in 2018. Despite strong associations with the Taliban, both ul-Haq and his father were typically seen as mediators rather than direct participants in anti-state actions.

In the aftermath of the attack, both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif condemned the violence. The Pakistani Taliban expressed their condolences, describing ul-Haq as a "preacher of truth" and a dedicated supporter of religious education in the region. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, with no group yet taking responsibility for the tragedy.
