Peruvian Woman Faces Harsh Drug Charges After Arrest in Bali
A 42-year-old woman from Peru is detained in Bali for allegedly importing a significant quantity of drugs hidden in unconventional places.
A 42-year-old Peruvian woman has been taken into custody in Bali for allegedly attempting to smuggle approximately $70,000 worth of cocaine and ecstasy into Indonesia. Authorities report that the woman, identified only as N.S., was acting suspiciously when she was approached by customs officials.
After inspection, officials discovered the narcotics concealed in several locations: six packaged bundles wrapped in black duct tape inside her green bra, additional packages within her black underwear, and a sex toy, which included drugs inserted into her body.
Bali police's narcotics unit director, Radiant, disclosed that the total weight of the confiscated drugs was 1.4 kg of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills. Radiant further noted that the woman had reportedly been promised $19,000 for her role in the smuggling operation, which she was connected to via an encounter on the dark web in April.
Her journey began with a flight from Barcelona, Spain, with a stopover in Doha, leading to her arrival at Denpasar International Airport on August 12, at which point her arrest followed soon after. Indonesian law imposes severe penalties for drug offenses, including the death penalty, although a moratorium on capital punishment has been in place since 2017.
In a related case last month, three British nationals managed to avoid the death penalty after being convicted for smuggling cocaine cleverly disguised as packaged food items in Indonesia.
